Claudia (a friend of mine from high school) lost her granddaughter Lux not too long ago. Lux was four months old. It broke my heart when I read about it on Facebook. Claudia's family has been suffering terribly since Lux died. Sasha (Claudia's daughter & Lux's mom) has been suffering most of all. Claudia asked me to help Sasha understand where Lux is now. Sasha, I can assure you that Lux is in heaven with the Lord and I will explain why. I pray that my words will comfort you and help you understand.
Since I don't know your religious background, I'll start at square one. God exists and he created the universe and everything in it. How do we know this? Not from human opinion, but by careful observation of the world around us. Paul says it this way in Romans 1:19-20 (ESV): "For what can be known about God is plain to them (men), because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." The wonders of nature, the miracle of life in its many forms - all these things point to their creator. Could an unbelievably complicated machine like the human body come to exist through random events over millions of years? Believing that is a much bigger stretch of the imagination than a belief in God.
Not only do we know God exists, we also know that he loves us because he sent his son to die for us. Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) says it so beautifully: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." John 3:16 (ESV): "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." Would any of us allow our only son to be crucified to save someone else? Yet God did that to give us all an opportunity of eternal life with him. What more could God do to show us that he loves us?
How do we know that Jesus was the son of God? How do we know that the miracles, the teachings, and the resurrection are real and they're not just fairy tales? Because of the reliable witnesses who testify to these things. And why are they reliable? Consider this question: did the apostles have anything to gain by spreading the gospel? Was it money or fame or honor? No, their reward for spreading the gospel was persecution and death. So why would they make up such a fantastic story if it caused them so much misery? The answer is obvious: they didn't make it up. The writers of the New Testament speak the truth.
So we don't have to speculate or take someone else's word for it: God exists, Jesus (his only son) died for our sins and rose again, and the Bible (God's inspired word) is true. Knowing all this, consider the words of Jesus: "And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:2-4, ESV) If becoming like a child is a prerequisite for entering the kingdom of heaven, can there be any doubt that Lux and all little ones who die are in heaven with the Lord? Yet there are some misguided and ignorant people who believe babies need to be baptized to enter the kingdom of heaven. This belief is so obviously ludicrous that I hate to bring it up. I only mention it here because you may run into someone who will try to convince you otherwise. Baptism is for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). How could an innocent baby with no understanding of right or wrong be guilty of sin, so why would they need to be baptized for the forgiveness of sins? And again, if becoming like a child is a prerequisite for entering the kingdom of heaven, why would a baby need to be baptized? It's beyond me how people get such ridiculous ideas.
Sasha, this turned out to be a little longer than I expected, but I wanted to give you the best explanation I could. I knew your grandmother Okaleen and her sister Geraldleen very well. I can assure you they are taking good care of Lux until you see her again.
