Who Is This Idiot?

I'm sure there are some people who read my blog and think "Who is this idiot?  Every time I turn around, he's posting a link on Facebook with more nonsense from his blog.  I wish he'd lose the holier than thou attitude, stop pointing fingers at everyone, and mind his own business."  I can understand that reaction (not that it's appropriate, but I do understand it).  I felt that way about Christians before I became one, and no doubt there are some Christians who (incorrectly) believe they are "holier than thou".  So, if you think I'm an idiot, I can accept that.  All I ask is this: continue reading and consider what I have to say.
First of all, no Christian (especially me) is holier than thou, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23, ESV)  God's standard is perfection and no human being can meet that standard, therefore none of us are inherently better (or worse) than anyone else.  I'm not perfect; anyone who knows me can tell you that.  The purpose of my blog is to educate, not to point fingers or hold myself up as some kind of shining example.  If I'm doing my job right, my blog should be about God, not about me.  If it seems otherwise at times, maybe I've fallen short of my goal, or maybe you don't understand my words or their intent.  In either case, I can't force you to believe anything.  God has given all men free will, therefore everyone is free to choose what they believe (or don't believe).  All I can do is help you make an educated decision based on God's word.  If you are unwilling to accept God's word because you don't believe God exists, I would ask you to consider this: it's possible that God exists even if you don't believe in him.
Really, the purpose of my blog is to get you to open up the Bible and study it.  See what it has to say.  Compare my words with the Bible.  If the two are in agreement and you learn something from what I've written, then I've done my job.  I will add this qualifier: disregard everything in my blog if my actions don't match my words (again, not that I'm perfect, but my life should reflect my faith).  I could memorize the entire Bible and be able to explain it perfectly but if I don't do what it says then how can I call myself a Christian?  Or how can I say to you "do what's right" if I don't do it myself?  As Jesus said: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21, NIV)
