Are All Religions Equally Valid?

Had an interesting conversation with a guy at work the other day. It started with a statement he made to me: "All religions are equally valid." Me: "While I agree that some of them have a lot in common, particularly about the way we should treat our fellow man, they can't all be equally valid." Him: "Why not?" Me: "If I say the sky is green and you say it's blue, are we both correct?" Him: "No." Me: "So if I say Jesus is the son of God and you say he's not, are we both correct? Or if I say the Bible is God's word and you say a different book is God's word, are we both correct?" Him: "It doesn't work that way with religion." Me: "Forget the religion part of it for a minute. Simple logic tells us that if you have two conflicting statements or ideas, one is wrong, or the other is wrong, or they're both wrong, but it's impossible for both of them to be right. Two plus two can't equal both four and five." Him: "You're just trying to cram your views down my throat." Me: "Not at all. You're free to believe whatever you want. I can't make you believe anything. I'm just saying that the popular concept "all religions are equally valid" is false because it's not logical." Him: "So now you're Mr. Spock from Star Trek with all this logic stuff?" He thought I was trying to be a jerk but I wasn't. The idea is to think about what you believe. Is it logical? Does it make sense? If not, then it's time to re-examine your beliefs.
